7th July | 6.00 pm – 8:30 pm – The I Am Group are hosting the inaugural event of the Small Charity CEO Network, in collaboration with Jane Hudson Jones and Marina Pacheco.
This supportive and informal network aims to provide a neutral space to share ideas, common challenges and to look at problem solving and providing solutions to some of the unique issues faced by small charity CEOs.
Small Charity CEOs are strong people. We are problem solvers who get the job done. No matter what the stresses and strains within our organisations we project an air of confidence and authority. We’re calm in a crisis (most of the time). We have picked up skills we never even dreamed we would need, you know, all those things that have to be done but we don’t have the funds for such as fundraising, marketing, HR, and buildings maintenance. We are devoted to our organisations.
Sometimes because we know our own minds, make our own decisions and fight all the fires we find it difficult to admit when we’re not having such a great time. We sometimes commiserate with fellow CEOs about the challenges we face. We wish we had more time to sort out the nitty gritty bits of the job, the odd way things are run that we know aren’t efficient but we simply don’t have the time to think about it, so we just keep doing it and promise ourselves that one day we will sort it out.
Jane Hudson Jones and Marina Pacheco, Lotus Consultancy partners, have been there too. We are both experienced CEOs of small charities who have stepped away in an effort to gain that time and distance for perspective. We know there has to be a better way to do the things we were trying to do, and we know others feel the same way. For that reason we are setting up a support, research and development network for CEOs in small charities. We will create a supportive space where we can not only share our challenges but can collectively come up with solutions. This is not just another talking shop, we will set challenges and in short focused workshops brainstorm the solutions. It will be the most productive two hours you can spend away from your charity.
