Congratulations are in order…

I am recruiting is a tried and trusted brand, with a recruitment heritage of over a decade in the world of membership. We pride ourselves on finding the best talent for our clients and that’s why news like this is music to our ears…

Back in late 2017, the Royal College of General Practitioners were looking for an Assistant Director in Membership and we successfully placed Paul Roberts into the role. We’ve had fantastic feedback on Paul since the placement and learnt just before Christmas that Paul had actually been awarded the 2018 RCGP Leadership Award! The Annual RCGP Staff Awards recognise those seen as best demonstrating the College’s core values of Leadership, Excellence, Teamwork and Care. They are voted for by staff and awarded at the Annual Employee Conference.

“From a recruiter’s point of view, Paul was really easy to work with; friendly and professional, quick to respond and keen to take advice. His style was open and transparent from the start, which made conversations with him so much more honest. With my instinct as an experienced recruiter, I knew very quickly into the process that Paul was likely to be one of the top candidates for the role – even in a competitive field – so I can’t honestly say I was surprised when I received a ‘good news’ telephone call from the RCGP…” Julian Smith, Director, I am recruiting

We caught up with Paul after the Christmas break to congratulate him and we asked him about what he thinks makes a good leader:

“I feel truly honoured to have been awarded the RCGP Staff Award for Leadership. Our core values set out a clear expectation for how we approach our work and our colleagues, and I’m delighted to have my contribution recognised. For me, consistency in approach, openness to ideas, clear communication and fairness are the foundations of good leadership.  It sounds simple but personal responsibility and leading by example are key to showing that you care about your job, your team and your employer.” Paul Roberts, Assistant Director – Membership, RCGP

Paul’s success as a leader in the membership sector was also recognised by the Institute of Association Management and he was invited last week to become a member of the Institute by Chief Executive Lee Davies:

“Winning this award has highlighted Paul’s outstanding leadership skills and it’s only fitting that we recognise him as a future association leader in presenting him with a membership to the Institute of Association Management. The IofAM, steeped in history stretching back to 1933, is the professional body for senior staff managing membership associations and we welcome Paul into the fold!”, Lee Davies, Chief Executive, Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys

‘As a candidate I felt very supported through the recruitment process from start to finish.  I was kept up to date at all of the key stages in the process and felt they really understood who I was and what I was looking for from a new role’. Paul Roberts, Assistant Director – Membership, RCGP
